Vacation in Pattaya Thailand – Travel Tips From an Insider

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Pattaya Thailand may not have the same glitz and glamour as Cannes France. Yet this seaside city on the southern coast of Thailand manages to pull over 1 million tourist a year. Pattaya invented its own category, its on special vibe and reputation for having one of the wildest nightlife scene in this tiny sliver of Southeast Asia. Sure it may be short on class when you compare it to the stuffy clubs and bars in Cannes with its $2,000 champagnes. But where else are you going to find bars with names like “Beavers” serving ice cold Tiger beer for $2?

Navigating amongst Pattaya’s many sois or “Side Street” (in foreigner speak) of bars, clubs, pubs and massage parlors is not so difficult. Where ever you find gaudy neon lights you are bound to find some assortment of male recreation befitting all appetites. And of course outside of said establishments you can find a myriad of Thai women hounding you to patron their place of work, promising you a time you will never forget.

Pattaya city can be broken up into two sections; North Pattaya and South Pattaya. Most visitors to Pattaya converge on Walking Street located in southern Pattaya which is most well known for its no holds barred nightlife venues. The bright neon lights and skull jarring hip hop beats. Thai woman (and transvestites), tugging and pulling at your shirt sleeves make you feel like you are taking a stroll inside a life sized arcade pin ball machine. Walking Street is considered the epicenter, the crust of all that is unholy and seedy in this part of Pattaya. But upon closer inspection you will find Irish pubs, various other watering holes and well established restaurants run mostly by  foreign expats. These are places filled visitors from all over the world just sitting and chatting, without a lady sitting on their laps. Then you realize Pattaya is not just all about sex and sin.

Pattaya is about rest and recreation, the famous R&R phrase used by US soldiers from the Vietnam war era who changed the face of this once quiet seaside fishing village forever. Where once army boots pounded the streets long ago, today are being patrolled by slipper wearing backpackers and even by elderly tourist who curiously peek at the go-go dancer, who lure men in like a seasoned fisherman.

Through the years Pattaya has set her own standards and charm as one of the world’s foremost party and relaxation destinations. She may not have famous celebrities and movie stars sunning themselves on their million dollar yachts there, but Pattaya Thailand can still cast a charm on any soul beckoning them to return again and again.

Consider All Possible Travel Expenses When Planning Your Luxury Travel Vacation

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

You have been searching for weeks on end for a vacation package that is budget friendly and family friendly. You want something that would not take you ten years to save for, but would not require pawning off random possessions. You want a good quality vacation that offers luxury travel destinations, right?

Discount luxury travel deals are the perfect solution to your summer blues. You are able to go almost anywhere in the world for a portion of the price, and bring your family too! But what do discount luxury travel deals have to offer you? When looking at the price of a non discounted travel vacation package, you have to equate the cost of kennels, babysitters if you have children, the cost of food, flight tickets, hotel costs, and any souvenirs you might want to purchase while on the trip.

So, all these costs broken down equal:

1.) Kennel: $25 per day that you are away. A week long vacation would cost $175 just for boarding your furry friend.

2.) Food: $100-$600 depending on what country or region you are currently visiting.

3.) Flight Tickets: $500-$2000 per person, potentially.

4.) Hotel: Depends on where you are staying.

5.) Not including spending money and other potential costs, a vacation could quite easily cost upwards of $5000.

Even for a well-off person, this price can be quite steep. You need something better, something that is perfect…which is just what discount vacations offer to everyone by utilizing the bounty of discount travel deals, you can actually save two to four times on your vacation package.

Imagine that: for the one regular priced vacation, you can go on four or possibly even five discounted vacations, and still put your buddy in the kennel, pay the babysitter, etc. Some agencies offer discounted vacations that are not quite worth the discount. This does not always have to be so. You can go on a quality vacation, taking the whole family, boarding in some of the best known hotels, and traveling on airplanes whose companies you know and trust to the vacation of your dreams.

However, travel membership generally offer better ideas and discounts than you would get using the companys’ regular services. By paying a fee of less than your discounted vacation, you can continue to get discounts on your vacations, and then continue to find deals.

Endless Vacation Magazine Review

Endless Vacation is a magazine I have been reading for many years. I first became acquainted with this magazine several years back when I purchased a timeshare for the first time. I was given instant membership in RCI and with this membership I received my first copy of Endless Vacation. I have been reading it ever since (about six total years) and I have found something enjoyable in most every issue.

This magazine has more monthly departments than most other publications and these departments make up the majority of each issue. I usually turn to “Ready, Set, Go” first, to find out the latest travel news and to see a preview of the latest travel products. I then turn to “Weekender” and “Destinations” to read about specific places to visit before I settle in and slowly flip through the remaining pages of the issue.

RCI is a worldwide operation and because of this, the articles can highlight virtually anyplace on the globe, and that includes popular as well as less popular destinations. What I like about this magazine is that, even though it is a publication for people who are RCI members (which means they generally stay in resorts), it still ventures outside of this comfort zone when it comes to articles. It is common to find articles that have nothing to do with resort vacationing, like safaris, cruises, hiking, etc. This surprised me when I first started to read this magazine. I assumed it would be nothing more than pages of articles about specific resort destinations and advertisements for properties for renting. In reality, these types of articles make up a very low percentage of this magazine. Most of it is dedicated to adventure travel and general articles about things to do and ways to make the most of your vacation.

Another pleasant surprise with this magazine is its ability to find some unusual yet interesting places to visit. This is especially true in the “Weekender” section where one can find a generally unheard of destination that has something unique to offer. The most recent issue, for example, has a few pages on the small town of Helen, Georgia- a city that looks like a small German village. These articles are fun because they focus on places that most people- even the most seasoned world travelers- have likely never heard about.

Because this magazine is intended for members, it is common to find a special insert section with information on newly added resorts to the RCI family and highlights on specific vacation regions. These can be popular and unpopular places and they typically change each month. One month, the spotlight might be on Hawaii, Iowa, Europe, and California. The next month, it might be Florida, South Dakota, Mexico, and other places.

Advertisements are not as common in this magazine as I first expected. They cover only about forty percent of the pages- not a bad number considering this is a travel magazines. Many of the ads highlight special offers intended for RCI members only, so don’t be disappointed if you get your hands on an issue, come across a great deal, and discover you cannot take advantage of it unless you join RCI.

Travel will always be one of my favorite activities and Endless Vacation Magazine will always rank high among my list of favorite travel publications. It seeks out the well- known and the obscure in the world of travel, with articles that are written from an informative yet personal angle.

Night In Satun – Adventures In Southern Thailand

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

My Mercedes is waiting. The sun beams diffusely down through the moisture laden air causing beads of sweat to drip continuously on my already drenched t-shirt. I am going to Satun, hotel in thailand, and the Mercedes is a classic well kept 1962 model. In fact there is a whole fleet of Mercedes waiting to take tourist to Satun from Hai Jai in Southern Thailand. They are all black with an exaggerated curved body indicative of automobiles of the, hotel in thailand, late 50’s. And believe it or not, they still retain the comfort that Mercedes is famous for.

The year is 1998 and I am going to the Andaman Sea in the Straits of Malacca. There I will plant myself for two weeks on one of the many somewhat deserted islands that dot this reclusive part of the world. A world inhabited by pirates and honeymooners in the Koh Tarutao National Park system in the very south of Southern Thailand.

Which island I am going to, I don’t know, but I am not the only one. Sharing my taxi ride is a young couple in love from Germany and a family from Thailand, husband and wife with their 5 year old son.

It takes about twenty minutes for the taxi driver to stuff everyone’s belongings into the trunk. I have made substantial purchases of deliciously, hotel in thailand, fresh dried fruits and filled my water container with pomegranate juice from one of the ‘made for tourist’ vendors surrounding the taxi. We squeeze into tightly together; the family and myself in the rear of the taxi and the couple from Germany in the front and prepare for a long and fascinating journey.

“Are you comfortable” the driver asks in broken English.

I answer like an excited kid, “Let’s get this rocket rolling.”
My feelings were of excitement and anticipation and I don’t know why I said such a strange thing, hotel in thailand, . No one else said anything and I felt as if, hotel in thailand, my words were still echoing in the silence minutes later. But no matter, here I am in the middle of the world, on an adventure that relatively few have gone before.

The journey takes 3 hours of driving through, hotel in thailand, exotic and undeveloped country side; incidentally through a warm and friendly Islamic side of Thailand.

At one point we passed two foreigners on bicycles pedaling in racing uniforms. Later they caught up to us in some remote village on the way as we were stopping for refreshment. They came up next to our taxi and said with a heavy European accent “hello?” I answered, “Wow! I can’t believe this! What are you doing way out here in the middle of nowhere on bicycles?”

The young man in his twenties answered, “We are traveling around the world. We are on our way to Indonesia.” The other couple traveling in the taxi with me immediately took notice and a very long and interesting conversation ensues between all of us.

It turns out that the bicyclists are a married couple and the last county they pedaled through was Myanmar. After Indonesia, they planned to cycle the islands of Hawaii and then to Mainland USA.

To this day I still have dreams of that encounter and the miraculous, hotel in thailand, and dangerous journey they were taking. I have never heard of them since and have no idea what became of them.

Before, hotel in thailand, we know it, the taxi driver, hotel in thailand, is honking his horn for us to return and we are saying our goodbyes to this marvelous couple.

We pile into the taxi for the last leg of our journey. Looking out the window we pass fields of coconut palms, women balancing wood or foods in baskets on their heads wearing colorful loose clothing down to their feet. The homes, hotel in thailand, we pass by are often made of palm frawns or a patchwork of wood and debris. And in the fields are men and women, young and old with their ox and children tilling vegetables in the same way at their ancestors have done for thousands of years.

Finally we reach, hotel in thailand, Satun.

I don’t know what to expect. The town is about two blocks long; a fishing village whose main street leads right to the ocean. There, hotel in thailand, fishing boats made of old rotting lumber wait to take us to one of the many islands we will now select in the, hotel in thailand, many makeshift tourist offices that line the street.

Each old rickety tourist office has pictures of the islands they offer and provide for a fee, the means to get their. And if you are uninformed, you will pay in advance for you accommodations.

Something better to do when you arrive on the island. Occasionally an owner of one of these offices tries to get us inside by enticing us with words like ‘beautiful, exotic, cheap…’ We all walk down the main avenue looking and asking questions until each of us select our travel destination destiny.

I study all the pictures from all the offices of all the islands carefully and I choose Langkawi only 5 kilometers away from the southern tip of Tarutao Island. I pay the equivalent of approximately $7 for a round trip boat ticket and, hotel in thailand, I am then led to one of the boats.

The boat can fit about 4 people and sits low, hotel in thailand, to the water. There is single engine propeller that is barely hangs attached to the rear of the craft. I wait about 15 minutes before, hotel in thailand, we begin, hotel in thailand, our three hour journey through, hotel in thailand, rough and dangerous seas to the somewhat deserted and exotic island of Langkawi…

My days on the island with boa constrictors, pirates, a lost tribe, hotel in thailand, of Islamic fishermen, my isolated beach cottage right on my own private beach, the couple isolated on the other side of the island studying esoteric Buddhism, the small exotic caf้ serving daily fresh fish from the sea, the many tourist from Europe that came and went, lightening in the sky on a clear day and the marvelous skin diving in clear deep tropical sears are topics I will discuss in my next article.

Stay turned.

Playing Golf in Thailand: Expert Questions and Answers

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Without doubt Thailand is becoming one of the fastest growing golf destinations for visiting tourists throughout the world. Only recently, the association of world golf travel agents voted Thailand the best up & coming destination, enhancing the excellent reputation it already has.
In order to assist you in planning your Thailand golf holiday, I have detailed below the most frequently asked questions.
When is the best time to visit?
Without doubt, the best time of year for golf is from November – February/March.

This is the ‘cool’ season, although is also the peak season for visiting tourists. As such, be prepared for busy golf courses, hotel in thailand, and try to plan your holiday well in advance.
What about the rest of the year?
You can play golf throughout the year in Thailand outside the cool season, and the weather is a, hotel in thailand, mixture of very hot days, to very wet days. However, do not let this put you off as, hotel in thailand, there are a number of great advantages, hotel in thailand, .

You can get some great deals on hotel prices and the courses are much quieter to play.
April is still a ‘dry’ month, with the rainy season not really starting until May. However, April & May are without doubt the hottest months of the year. June – August is not quite as hot, although you tend to get daily downpours. Again, do not let this put you off as they are normally short lived, and the courses dry out very quickly. September and October, the weather tends to be similar to that of the summer months although things, hotel in thailand, tend to be drier and the weather becomes more predictable as the year wears on.

Where is the best place to play?
This depends very, hotel in thailand, much what you are looking for. Bangkok has a huge number of courses, infrastructure that you would expect from any major capital and the city is very lively, providing a great experience for everyone.
The coastal resort of Hua Hin and the northern cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are a bit quieter, and very popular with couples, hotel in thailand, looking for golf, relaxation, and a sampling of true Thai culture.
Pattaya is without doubt the entertainment city in Thailand, and not for the shy and retiring type, although it also boasts a large number of excellent courses.

Phuket,, hotel in thailand, the famous tropical island, offers a combination of, hotel in thailand, great golf and stunning, hotel in thailand, beaches, and there is also now a championship course on Koh Samui, another tropical island.
North of Bangkok, lies the famous Khao Yai National Park, and there are a number of excellent courses now open in this region, which boasts spectacular scenery and views.
Finally, the area of Kanchanaburi, and the famous River Kwai, also has a number of fine courses, historical sights, and can be a great alternative to the other popular tourist destinations.

What are the courses like?
The majority of golf courses in Thailand are nothing short of first, hotel in thailand, class. With many being designed by famous golf professionals such as Jack Nicklaus and Nick Faldo, together with top golf course architects such as Pete Dye and Robert Trent Jones, you will be amazed with the quality.
What about the caddies?
Caddies are compulsory on a Thai golf course and are a fantastic experience. Included in your green fee, they cost around 250 baht (approximately 7 US dollars) a round, which has to be the best value for money in the world.

In most cases they will carry your clubs on ‘caddy car’ (trolley), should you wish to walk, although they will also ride with you in a cart if you prefer. Please note it is compulsory, hotel in thailand, at only a few Thailand golf courses to use a cart. Your caddie will be allocated upon arrival, and will look after your clubs until you tee-.off and are, hotel in thailand, of particular assistance for easy golf in Thailand. Always helpful with a smiling face, your caddie is another part of the unique Thailand golf experience.

They mark and clean, hotel in thailand, your ball, give guidance on the line of putts, and try to keep you cool when things get a bit hot during your round.
What is there to do outside golf?
You will certainly never be short of things to do outside golf. As a leading tourist destination Thailand has a number of alternative attractions and exciting opportunities to combine golf & travel, and its tourist magnetism remains unrivalled in any other part of the world.
From the many temples and night markets, to the state of the art shopping malls, from stunning beaches, to the stunning waterfalls and scenery, there is something for everyone.

The culture and customs in Thailand also provide a fascinating, hotel in thailand, insight to this wonderful country leaving you completely amazed.
Thailand also hosts some the best Spa facilities in the world, allowing you to relax and enjoy the rejuvenating treatments, and unbelievably friendly service that goes with it all.
I recommend all golfers allocate some time after their rounds for, at least, a one hour foot massage. This treatment is available throughout the country at clean specialized shops, hotel in thailand, located almost on every street corner in the tourist areas.

For around 200 baht (approximately 5 US dollars) is an experience not be missed. For the golfer who has walked his 18 holes, this papering of his feet and legs only goes to further the pleasure of the total golfing experience only available in Thailand.
What about transportation and getting around?
Your package booked with most tour operators will provide transportation from the airport to your hotel, and return transfers to the golf course, hotel in thailand, each day. You can reserve this private transportation in the evenings although there is no shortage of local transportation.

Taxi’s are very cheap, and in abundance. Also, you have the famous ‘Tuk Tuk’s’, a smaller open air version of a taxi that will transport you around town at very little cost.
In summary, if you are thinking about a golf vacation to Thailand, then one company, Golfasian, http://www.golfasian.com, will be more than happy to answer any additional questions you may have. We pride ourselves on our high level of service, and repeat customers we get each year by providing as much customized assistance as needed to our golfing customers.

He is a respected and admired foreign business person among the local Thai people, in spite of the fact that he is a 46 year old American.

What’s The Best Way To Book Your Hotel In Thailand?

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Let’s look, hotel in thailand, at the available options:

Online with your airline reservation
Online form directly with the hotel
Phone call or email to the hotel
Your local travel agent
Online form with an in-country booking agent

If you book your flight online, hotel in thailand, with a company like Expedia or Travelocity, you will be given the option to add a hotel to your airfare. The prices are usually outrageous and the hotels listed are at the very high end.

Booking directly from the hotel online is a good option if the hotel, hotel in thailand, has an online booking form and it is secure.

Check for the little, hotel in thailand, lock at the bottom of your Internet browser.

Phone calls to overseas locations can be expensive and there, hotel in thailand, is no guarantee of an English-speaking receptionist. Even if you make the, hotel in thailand, booking over the phone, there is no guarantee in writing that, hotel in thailand, your room will be waiting for you.

Booking via email can be dangerous if the hotel requires credit card information since your email is not secure.

Your local travel agent may or may not know the current situation or prices in Thailand.

Hotels in Thailand have different rates during different times of the year. Prices are greatly reduced during low season and can be much more expensive during high season. There may also be additional fees during Christmas and New Years. Your local agent may not know all of these details.

Booking through an online agent actually located in Thailand is your best bet. They will have access to many more hotels in all price ranges and all locations. They will also be privy to specials and promotions that may not be published outside the country.

Also, they will speak both, hotel in thailand, Thai and English, have a secure server for orders, and respond promptly to your enquiries. Their web sites will also publish reviews of the hotels.

Do your homework, check the prices directly at the hotel’s web site, and then visit one of the many in-country online hotel-booking sites. Ensure that the site is secure, find a hotel in your price range and vacation spot, and book your room the easy and safe way.
