Guide to William Bartram’s Travels Review

As an outdoorsman, Southerner and student of early American history, I found this book to be exceptional. It’s more than a mere re-telling of Bartram’s journeys. Brad Sanders has re-created the American Southeast as it must have been. The author incorporates maps, photos and his own vignettes that keep the reader captivated. Especially noteworthy are the details of Bartram’s encounters with Native Americans. Most of these people and cultures he described are now gone forever. It’s a book to savor slowly, over and over. The amount of detail is incredible and enjoyable. A perfect gift for oneself or the naturalist/history buff in your life.

In a post 9/11 society, there is a lot of anxiety that surrounds air travel. It is a shame, because air travel is one of the safest modes of transportation. If you are even the slightest bit worried about your airplane trip follow some of these tips to ensure that you are being careful on your flight. You can be responsible for your own safety.
First, be sure to listen to the safety briefing at the start of the flight. It is so easy to tune out, but the information that is announced is very important if an emergency does happen. So pay attention…it only lasts a couple of minutes. Another way to take safety into your own hands is keep your seat belt fastened. Even when the fastened signs are off, it doesn’t hurt to have your belt always fastened.
Make sure the belt is on the correct way, snug, over the hips. It is not going to do you any good if it is on wrong. Lastly, obey carry-on baggage restrictions. Carry-ons have to be able to be stored above in the carry-on compartments. There are a lot of items that you would think are harmless that you cannot travel with. It is a very good idea to look online what is restricted so you know that what you are packing is allowed.
Remember to bring your medication on board with you, but in the prescription bottle. So in your travel, remember these safety tips and you’ll be flying anxiety free in no time.
