The only 2 tv companies u should consider is Sony OR LG, they put mattie screens on most of there sets.
I have been repairing sets for the last 5yrs and the only sets that r worth the money r Sony or LG ,because of the mattie screens (which r the best out there )

Was considering the Sony 46ex500 and was just about to purchase it, when I seen this LG on sale for 999.00 and this set had 200,000-1 contrast and 240 hz and the sony had 150000-1 and 120 hz.
So for the same price and picture looking very sharp, no brainer.

Picture- the HD picture is amazing almost like 3d, but in 2d , 3d is over rated just good for certain movies, no need to pay for that extra affect, this set will give u great unbeleiveable picture.
Digital Picture – is good plus LG gives u the ability to expand the picture and still stay clear.
SD Picture – is fair, but all the flat panel sets R the same.

Sound – the sound with clear 2 voice sys is good, not great but for tv sound sys pretty good.

Do not waste your time on plasma or LED sets which r over price , this set is just as good.

Would buy again, save your moeny and buy this top of the line LG SET.

HDTV merchants have two important jobs: to bring you the best technology available, and to help you understand exactly what it is. One way to help you understand new technology is to come up with a simple, descriptive name for it. But sometimes the names are a little too simple, sometimes they aren’t

descriptive enough, and sometimes they are downright misleading.

Here are seven common HDTV terms that can be misleading or unclear:

HD-Ready

Ready for what? “HD-ready” means the same thing as “HD monitor”. It is an HDTV without a built-in tuner, so an external ATSC tuner, or a cable box, will be needed to receive broadcasts. If you only intend to use your HDTV for gaming or DVD watching, it might be better to save a few hundred dollars with an HD-ready TV.

Native 720p/1080i Display

Most HDTV displays have either 768 or 1080 rows of pixels, and a few have 900. And all HDTVs have an

inherently progressive display, so the most common native resolutions are 768p, 900p, and 1080p. So, when a manufacturer or merchant claims that an HDTV is “native 720p/1080i”, it usually means that those are the highest resolutions it can handle, and the input is scaled and de-interlaced to fit a 768p display. Some DLP HDTVs, however, do have a native 720p display.

HDTV Antenna

There’s no such thing as a dedicated HDTV antenna. Over-the-air HDTV broadcasts use the UHF spectrum, just like public access TV. So, any UHF antenna will work.

Full HD

This refers to a 1080p display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and the ability to display 24, 30 or 60 full frames per second. The term is not wrong, but it implies that 720p or 1080i content is somehow incomplete. Since neary all HD content these days is still 720p or 1080i, that would be pretty

depressing for HDTV owners.

HD1080

Sets labeled “HD1080″ have 1080 rows of pixels and a progressive display, so they can properly be called 1080p. But they only have 1024 or 1280 pixels in each row, so they don’t display the maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080. A 1080i or 1080p signal would be downscaled in the horizontal direction, changing a picture with a lot of square pixels into one with a smaller amount of rectangular ones. This doesn’t alter the basic appearance of video content, but does cause problems when using the HDTV as a computer monitor.

Motionflow, Auto Motion Plus, ClearFrame, Clear Motion Drive

These are all trade names for the new 120Hz high frame rate display technology. HDTV sets with this feature will generally display motion smoother because they can show 120 distinct images per second instead of the typical 60.

1080p Upconverting DVD Player

Many DVD players claim to upconvert content to 1080p, as opposed to 1080i. This is unnecessary, since all HDTVs have progressive displays, and there’s no visible difference between content upconverted to 1080i and content upconverted to 1080p. The transfer from “i” to “p” is called de-interlacing, and this task is performed by the TV anyway. The only benefit would come if it’s a low quality HDTV (with a poor de-interlacer) and a high quality DVD player with a good de-interlacer.

When the day of the big game is nearing we try to decide whose house to watch it in. Daniel’s house has the advantage because it is centrally to everybody’s house; it is significantly a few miles from all of us.

Daniel is a new father and so there would be very many interruptions. We contemplated of having it at Liz and Peter’s house, but although they have a HDTV and LCD TVs, they are way out on the outer edge far from everyone else expect for Daniel and their houses are not well cleaned and a few of us are sensitive to mold.

We finally decided to have it at my place. I always serve the best refreshments besides not having a brand new HDTV and LCD TVs as the rest of my friends have and there is plenty of room for everyone. I had bought new speakers for it to add high definition surround reverberation to the high resolution image.

They all came early enough that we had time for grabbing a beer, schmoozing and small talk. At last the much awaited big game kicked off, the home team was winning, at least for the first quarter, and watching the big image felt like we were all part of action. Nevertheless, things can change pretty quickly in certified football. The opponents, Minnesota Vikings were now on the offense, and by the end of the second quarters they had a two lead touchdown. This could not stand so we cheered pretty loudly as we watched, we were glad for the halftime break because we could run out for some snacks and relive our selves.

The game kicked off and ended with us hollering and hooting because we caught up and overtook them. But with all that it is the HDTV and LCD TVs that made the experience immense.

“What exactly is HDTV, and what does it mean for me?”

HDTV. You know you want one. We all do. We’ve heard that HTDV offers greater clarity than we’re used to seeing, smoother motion, richer colors, surround sound, and the potential for improved performance from the various pieces of equipment that we want to work together. But before you buy, it’s helpful to understand the technology and its related issues.

First, just buying an HDTV and plugging it into a standard cable box doesn’t give you high-definition television. To watch high-definition TV, you need three components: an HDTV source, an HDTV channel, and the HDTV show itself. Your source, the HDTV set, can display both regular and HDTV images, but standard analog television displayed on an HDTV set can be disappointing. True, it probably displays a little better than on a standard set, but it is still a far cry from what we expect from HDTV. Also, large screen sets in particular exaggerate the flaws in the standard programming, making them glaringly obvious.

As for the channel and the show, most major networks are now broadcasting many of their prime-time shows in high definition on their HD channels, and various other networks are broadcasting in high definition, as well. However, cable and satellite providers that don’t carry all of the available networks and HD channels don’t broadcast all of their content in HD. Finding your favorite show in high definition can be a hit-and-miss undertaking.

The good news is that this is going to change. The United States is currently in the process of converting to digital television (DTV). As of July 1, 2006, all new televisions 25 inches or larger must contain either integrated DTV tuners that can receive high-definition programs by simply connecting an antenna, or must be “DTV ready.” DTV-ready sets require a separate tuner (or cable or satellite box) to display high-definition programming. Subscribers to pay television (cable or satellite) with an HDTV-ready set do not require the DTV tuner, but can instead watch HDTV by using a set-top box that tunes HDTV channels.

HDTV sets that are “digital cable ready” (DCR) can tune the digital cable without needing the external box, but they require a special cable card, available from the cable provider.

On March 1, 2007, all new 13-inch or larger sets must have DTV tuners or be DTV-ready. However, although the FCC has mandated the DTV tuner dates, it has not mandated that sets sold must be able to display HDTV resolutions. Consumers wanting to view HDTV the way it is meant to be viewed are wise to make sure that a new set has this capability.

On February 17, 2009, over-the-air analog broadcasts will shut off, and all broadcasting will be DTV. After that date, standard NTSC televisions will not receive on-air broadcasts, but the government might subsidize converter boxes for those unable to make the switch.

HDTV Basics

HDTV refers to high-definition television (or, as some prefer, Huge Darned TV). It is not the only digital broadcasting format, but it is considered to be the best. It offers better resolution than other digital television standards, and a better color display than our current analog televisions that are based on the NTSC standard used in North America.

NTSC stands for the National Television Systems Committee, a body that set the standards in 1953, although video professionals are likely to tell you tongue in cheek that the initials really mean Never Twice the Same Color. The NTSC standard is legendary for reception problems leading to color distortion–an issue that should not occur with HDTV.

HDTV broadcasts widescreen pictures with superior detail and quality than either analog TV or other types of digital television (DTV). HDTV’s superiority stems from three factors: aspect ratio, resolution, and frame rate.

A standard analog television has an aspect ratio of 4:3 (meaning four units wide and 3 units high), giving the “almost square” shape that is also common in computer monitors. However, with an aspect ratio of 16:9 (16 units wide and 9 units high), HDTV provides a “movie theatre” look for TV shows or movies shot in widescreen. Complications arise because not all television is shot in widescreen. With standard or high-definition 4:3 programming, HDTV might display vertical black bars on both sides of the screen, or might stretch or zoom the picture.

Problems created by aspect ratio have workarounds, but this requires that your television or the video source (i.e., satellite tuner, cable box or DVD player) have aspect-ratio control. To avoid disappointment, ensure that the television you are going to buy offers this function.

As for resolution or picture detail, HDTV offers more than twice the sharpness of analog TV. Analog has the resolution equivalent of 640×480 pixels, meaning 480 lines of visible detail. At its highest level, HDTV has a resolution almost six times better–1,920×1,080 pixels, or 1,080 lines of visible detail.

HDTV is available in two different resolutions: 1,080i and 720p. The former has more lines and pixels, but the latter has a progressive-scan format that delivers a smoother image during motion. One is not necessarily better than the other–just different. A third format, 1,080p, combines the best features of the two, but programming content is rare.

Frame rate refers to the number of times a set creates a complete picture on the screen every second. As mentioned above, frame rates ending in “i” are interlaced, and frame rates ending in “p” are generally progressive. With progressive frame rates, or progressive scans, the lines of each frame are drawn in sequence across the screen from left to right. In an interlaced frame rate or scan, only every second line is drawn, and then the process is repeated to fill in the gaps.

DTV frame rates range from 24 frames per second to 60 frames per second. Therefore, a “1,080i HDTV” has a resolution of 1,920×1,080 pixels, and can display 60 frames per second, interlaced.

Looking Ahead

It’s safe to predict that an HDTV bought now won’t become obsolete any time soon. It’s also a safe prediction that, as time passes, they’ll come down even more in price, and that more and more content will be offered in HD format.

Some analysts expect to see increased content available in on-air broadcasting, given the FCC’s mandate around the DTV tuners. And it’s definitely my prediction that HDTV will have many of us tearing our hair out when we set it up and do the fine-tuning!

Another great feature of this LCD TV is that it has a super fast 2 millisecond response time. This gives your programs, movies and video games etc excellent and life-like image quality. It’s like it’s all happening in your living room.

Since I bought my TV, all of my friends and family have commented and complimented on it. I sometimes find it hard getting rid of them! I would highly recommend this TV to anyone who’s looking for the best quality available – because that’s exactly what you get with this TV.
